W. Taft Matney, Jr. Chief Executive Consultant
Taft Matney is a Mauldin, South Carolina native and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Government and Business from the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg.
Growing up in a political area, Taft learned the importance of quality public affairs at an early age.
As a child, Taft volunteered in his first campaign and subsequently worked in many others. Years later as a political consultant and manager, his public affairs pursuits expanded into the private arena as well. Taft's past and present clients include the Spartanburg County Republican Party, various state and local election campaigns, the South Carolina Pawnbrokers' Association, Lieutenant Governor Andre' Bauer, and the Coalition for Quality Healthcare.
His knowledge of grass roots efforts, fundraising, media relations, legislative affairs, and strategic planning allow Taft to understand what is necessary to achieve an organization's objectives effectively and efficiently.
Taft was also a frequent editorial contributor to the "Our Turn" opinion section in The Greenville (SC) News.
Awards and honors for Taft's academic and professional endeavors include the Speech Communication Award from the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg and two separate citations from the Veterans of Foreign Wars for broadcast scriptwriting. Taft also received three Palmetto Award nominations for "writing," "design," and "special publication" by the South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
Taft married the former Addy Schmitz in 1998, added "Father" to his job description in October 2003, and was featured with his son Trey in the May 2005 issue of TALK Greenville magazine.
He was a member of the Advisory Council of the Greenville Hospital System and Memorial Medical Campus and is currently a member of the national and state divisions of the Public Relations Society of America, the International Freelance Photographers' Organization, and the Government Task Force of Greenville Forward.
He was tapped to serve on the City Center, Economic Development, and Cultural Resources subcommittee for the City of Mauldin's Comprehensive Plan in June 2008 and on the city's Main Street Steering Committee in early July. |
