Items appearing on this page are transcripts of various letters of congratulation and appreciation for my efforts over the years. Full information packets containing copies of the actual letters may be obtained by contacting Taft Matney (serious inquiries only). The Following Letters Come From:
March 3, 1992 Dear Taft: On behalf of the South Carolina Republican Party, I would like to thank you for your help with the Southern Republican Leadership Conference. Each day of the conference, the press office compiled a news summary for the elected officials and delegates. The articles you provided were essential to Saturdays news summary, and I appreciate your taking the time to get them to us. I am eternally grateful for your help so early on a Saturday Morning! Again, thank you for your help with the conference. You were a lifesaver! Sincerely, Mary Pat Baldauf Communications Director (South Carolina Republican Party)
October 31, 1994 Dear Mr. Matney: As you probably know, Lacye Sater recently used the political campaign in which you were involved as the subject of a paper which she wrote for my basic marketing class. The students assignment was to describe and evaluate the marketing activities of a non-profit or professional organization, and since Lacye has taken such and interest in politics, this was a real natural for her. I want to thank you for spending time with her as she gathered information for her paper. She certainly seems to have learned a great deal and is appreciative of the help you have given her. Thanks again. Cordially, Charles L. Alford Professor (Furman University Department of Economics and Business Administration)
August 3, 1995 Dear Taft: You are so nice! I couldnt leave today without telling you that. I do appreciate the tremendous effort on your part and that of all of those youve "forced" into involvement, on our behalf. You, as I would have predicted, have gone above and beyond. We are grateful. Ive made my notes on all you passed along today and will let Carl (Clark) know where "showtime" will be. I simply wanted to say thank you for the time, effort and diligence you have given to Life AbilitiesThe Easter Seal Society of Greenville County. We appreciate you. Sincerely, Celia J. White Director (Life Abilities-The Easter Seals Society of Greenville County)
August 3, 1995 Ms. Annell Kirkland General Manager Keymarket of S.C.
Dear Annell: We wanted to make sure we let you know, how much we appreciate your Taft Matney. Taft has worked tirelessly, in lining up PSAs, players, interviews, etc. for our September 18th golf tournament. He has devoted a great deal of time and effort, to ensuring the tournaments success from all of the stations under your umbrella. I know that too many times agencies only write after the fact. We therefore wanted you to be aware, as we go along, that all Taft and others are doing for our benefit, is greatly valued. Thank you, Annell. Sincerely, Celia J. White Director (Life Abilities-The Easter Seals Society of Greenville County) Handwritten note on letter: "Taft, This makes me proud! Ive never received a before letter. Thanks so much. Annell 8/8/95"
December 18, 1995 Taft, Congratulations on a very wise and diplomatic comment to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal on the occasion of Ross Perot's visit to USCS. You did well and hit just the right note. Thanks for being a good spokesman for the party. Best regards, Bob (The Honorable Bob Inglis -- Member of the US House of Representatives; 4th District)
November 4, 1996 Dear Mr. Matney: On behalf of the Horizons Show Advisory Board representing USCS and SC-ETV, I would like to convey our utmost appreciation to you for your participation on the show of November 1st discussing college students perspectives on the upcoming elections. Based upon preliminary feedback from this program, you and your colleague did an extraordinary job. As attempts are made to communicate the many challenges facing college students, it is evident that student leaders such as yourself are the best resources for disseminating the facts. You are to be commended for your efforts and fine work. As the Advisory Board proceeds in meeting its mission of educating the Upstate community about services and other issues of interest, we hope to invite you back at some point in the future. Meanwhile, if we can ever be of assistance to you, please feel free to call. Again, thank you for providing your time and expertise which contributed to the success of the program that enriches the lives of citizens in the Upstate. Sincerely, Karry L. Guillory Associate Chancellor (USC-Spartanburg & South Carolina Educational Television)
November, 1996 Dear Taft: Let me give you my thanks for all the help you gave us in this years Republican campaign in Spartanburg County. The result was a complete sweep in our county for all Republican candidates and a clean sweep for all our statewide Republican candidates, and you played a significant part in these victories. I can truthfully say that no one did more for the Republican cause in this campaign than you did. Your work as campaign manager for our County Council candidate, Rock Adams, was just outstanding. You defeated a 16-year incumbent Democrat who had the credentials of the presidency of the South Carolina Association of Counties, and who had a big advantage in the amount of money he spent on his campaign. It was a great upset, and the most gratifying victory in the campaign. You did a magnificent job in managing that campaign. You also handled many of the arrangements for the visit of President and Mrs. Bush on behalf of Senator Thurmond, both in the welcome at the airport and the reception at Greenville; you were active in the literature distribution on the final weekend of the campaign; you organized and conducted a successful Youth Rally at the airport; and you undertook many other significant activities both personally and as the head of the Young Republicans of the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg. You have done outstanding work in the Republican cause in this election, and I am looking forward to your assuming an important leadership role in the Republican party Yours, Jim (James F. Johnson Chairman; Spartanburg County Republican Party) Handwritten note on letter: "Taft, I just cant thank you enough."
June 12, 1997 Dear Mr. Matney: I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your recent appointment to Chief of the Mauldin Bureau. This is certainly an impressive accomplishment, of which I am sure your family, friends, and you are justifiably proud. As Chief of the Mauldin Bureau, it will be your responsibility to provide The Tiger Town Observer with stories relating to the Mauldin and Greenville areas. As this is a new position at the paper, you have the opportunity to set the standard for future Chiefs to follow, and I am certain you will do a fine job. Your selection and participation as the Mauldin Bureau Chief shows that you are well on your way towards a bright future. I congratulate you again on this honor, and wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. I am sure you will continue to set a fine example for all to follow. As always, please do not hesitate to call upon me if I may be of assistance to you as your United States Senator. With kindest regards and best wishes, Sincerely, Strom Thurmond (President Pro Tempore; United States Senate)
November 18, 1999 Dear Taft: Thank you for going to Aiken and making the presentation on school choice. And thanks for sending me a copy of your speech. It (the speech) was well thought out. In fact my secretary Cheryl Fennell told me yours was one of the better ones presented. And I will be calling on you later for help on school choice and other projects as well. Best Wishes, Lewis (Member; SC House of Representatives - District 18)
February 8, 2000 Dear Taft: It is because of the willingness of people like you to become actively involved that the democratic process results in better government for all our citizens. Thank you for your commitment to my efforts in government, to your community, and to your state. Please don't hesitate to call me if I may ever be of help to you. Sincerely, Lewis (Member; SC House of Representatives - District 18)
June 17, 2000 Dear Taft, I spoke with Addy yesterday and I hope she conveyed my "empathy" for Tuesday night. That's not a whole lot of fun but keep in mind you've got a bright future for a lot of years. I appreciate what you did during the campaign: you ran hard, but clean, and I know everyone realizes that. Give me a call when you get a chance. I look forward to talking with you. Warren |
